Good Morning and Welcome to this read, as always
By the time you are reading this email you have more than likely had your morning shower. Perhaps washed your hair/shaved or groomed yourself in some way to kick start your week.
Yet you may be surprised to learn that hygienic care was not the norm not that long ago.
As incredible as it sounds, men and women took baths only twice a year (May and October) . Women kept their hair covered, while men shaved their heads (because of lice and bugs) and wore wigs.
Wealthy men could afford good wigs made from wool. They couldn't wash the wigs, so to clean them they would carve out a loaf of bread, put the wig in the shell, and bake it for 30 minutes. The heat would make the wig big and fluffy, hence the term 'big wig.' Today we often use the term 'here comes the Big Wig' because someone appears to be or is powerful and wealthy.
In today's times when we are being forced to take on an almost fear of living in the 2020s , we can also appreciate that life can change for the better too.
Simple tasks such as washing your hands, within a house, with a basin, using taps with running water, hot and cold. Towels for drying, lighting to see clearly , power to dry hair, often bathing with candles for the joy of it, and oh so many varieties of shampoo and shaving creams to add to the grooming process... absolutely miraculous in comparison.
So while we all are adjusting to our now life with another virus; Not so long ago may I remind you that leg could be amputated simply through infection, and or poor hygiene.
Perspective and Gratitude sure is a beautiful thing.
Have a consciously seeking ways to acknowledge your life in your castle, all that is in your week, and feel your heart expand.
