When life dosent go as planned 4U.

I enjoy reading/learning/googling about the function of the brain.. how I can take more responsibility for its future.. and before you read on do know I am no expert.

I read a few simple facts;

This includes the way in which your brain receives and sends information.

 The way our brain processes traumatic or tough events and high constant levels of stress experiences, and how one can "move on or forget" the event while another may seem to never forget the event.


Also the long term damage or recovery caused.


I am no scientist, but I do enjoy learning about the workings of the mind.

From recent study I have learnt that those who struggle to forget, or manage high stress levels, or those with PTSD. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Some scientists believe that the stress corticoids (stress hormones) can atrophy (shrink down) the hippocampus and cause memory disruptions.


This resonated with me, as some clients state how after a traumatic or tough event, or long term high stress, and that some or all confidence is seemingly lost, and their ability to hold memory is somewhat diminished.


The other interesting fact is that elephants' (especially the female's ) hippocampus , continues to grow and expand, therefore they are able to "hold '' more and more memories, from birth until death. Hence the saying is a memory like an elephant who never forgets.


This is because her family relies on her as Matriark to remember where watering holes are, or danger was more likely to be located.

So as we are not elephants, can we expand our Hippocampus as Humans, and if so how???


We are all given opportunities in which to manage or expand our brains and in turn our lives....and rather than being small minded;

There are so many benefits of increasing your brain's neural pathways that I found through research ;

1. Simply by practicing new skills,

2. Start playing word games, interactive play

3. Have constant human interactions of substance,

4. Keeping fit, this is not a meander, this is significant exercise, regularly. (refer; google Dr Rangan Chattergee who interviews a neuroscientist and hippocampi nurse)

5. Being fully conscious at the moment-learn tools and techniques to manage stress.

6. Basically the more educated you are, the lower your rates of super common chronic diseases, like heart disease, stroke, hypertension, high cholesterol, emphysema, diabetes, asthma, ulcers.

7. Minimise or remove alcohol, and increase healthy foods.

8. Lifelong learning can increase your longevity and also improve the quality of your health overall.

9. Boost confidence and clarity , your purpose, your future.

10. Giving greater ability to be fully functioning within the community


Our hippocampus cells and fibres will actually grow and extend as our brain does..Awesome!

We are not elephants so our brains cannot simply grow without our help, and these suggestions are merely the tip of a massive brain iceberg!

Yet- It's great to know that with applying these simple suggestions,the more we learn to know, learn to do, (exercise) the more we learn to live together, and learn to be the best version of ourselves, the more mentally equipped we will be for times of trauma or challenges.

Makes one think, doesn't it,; 

That's the magic of life; accommodating your plans and growing with not against change.
